Why I Buy from a Jewelry Blogger

by Nancy R.
(Oregon)

I have bought several pieces of jewelry online from an artist who has a blog I adore. I somehow stumbled across it from some other blog, and I became enthralled in her posts about how she develops her pieces.

She also posts a lot of jewelry photos in her blog, which are always beautiful - very colorful, closeup, and well staged with attractive backgrounds or props.

I think reading her posts has become like a nice chat with an artist in their booth at a craft fair. Her blog has made me feel very comfortable with purchasing from her, and it really introduced me to her as an artist. Her jewelry designs are wonderful.

I've also followed links from her blog to other artists' blogs, and I enjoy them all so much. I'm not artistic myself, so I really enjoy my "visits" with these artists a few times a week when I check in on their blogs!

My advice would be to start a blog about your jewelry, and show us lots of photos - of you making your pieces, of your pieces in all sorts of attractive poses, etc.

And write blog posts telling us non-artists about how you make your items, what inspires your artistry, etc. I've noticed that the more I discover about the background of a piece of jewelry, the more interesting it is to me.

Thanks for your great comments about blogging. I have a blog myself and it's great to hear your thoughts about what you like about other artists blogs! Good to know!

I sell interesting pieces of an unique art. It's women jewelery (necklaces and bracelets) made by artisans in a lost island in the Indian ocean. These artists follow the tecniques and skills from ancient people that traded in those parts, such as arabic, deutch and portuguese.

It's refreshing to hear a buyer's point of view. I just started my blog. It's too new to see results yet, but I have dIscovered a whole new, fastenating community out there of which I'm excited to be part of.

Thank you Nancy.

You inspired us for writing about our artistic journey which sometimes I think buyers really did not care to know. They wanted product and the right price. But your post gave me a valuable incentive to care for showing and writing how my jewelry is made. I write about my agony and ecstasy of being a jewelry artist entrepreneur for my own sake, now I know readers are there too, who care to know about the artist and the process, the emotion and hard work that s/he is putting into the creation.

I appreciate it. Warm regards. Dita.

Nancy, what valuable information you have provided here, thank you! I suppose as designers we tend to take for granted what we do and don't always think about sharing that information with our wonderful customers. You have made me totally rethink the idea of blogging and I appreciate it.

Best to you,
Paula

I started my hand made jewellery business in August and I have been waffling back and forth on starting a blog. I have a lot of passion for what I do and sometimes I think the meaning behind some of the pieces I make gets put to the side. I love the idea of blogging and expressing everything that I'd love for potential buyers to know about why and how my jewellery has come to fruition! Thank you so much I'm sold and so excited to embark on my blogging journey!!!
I am currently only on Facebook: YYY Jewellery
Thank you so much for the guidance!

Blogging

I love all these ideas too. I don't have a blog but I will start one. I'm only on Etsy and I agree that Etsy is not all that it could be. I work hard at making my jewelry items and feel that I end up selling my work too cheap just to get it sold. After all, I don't want it to just sit there. I want to learn what I can do to better my business and get more people interested. So far I've done everything that has been commented on here except the blog and I don't have my own website. I think blogging about how your items are made and the passion of the artist is a terrific idea too. I have done a bit of that in my bio on Etsy but I wonder how my of my customers actually read it. I have several regular customers but no where near anything to brag about. I will continue to work hard at it. Thanks for all the wonderful comments. My Etsy site is dianaspainteddezigns.etsy.com if anyone would like to take a peak. All comments are welcomed. I will take any advice, even if you think it will hurt my feelings, it won't. I need all the help I can get. Thanks again everyone. Diana

Thank you so much for posting! I do blog, and sometime get frustrated with it because I don't know what to write about and almost felt it was kinda a waste of time describing how or why a piece turns out the way it does but I see that's not the case. I really appreciate you posting this. It's making re-think the way I blog. :)
