What discounts do I give to a retailer, as a wholesaler

by Nancy Harrington
(Indiana, US)

I have been approached by a gift shop that would like to sell my jewelry. They have asked about a wholesale agreement, what kind of discounts should I give as a wholesaler?

Do they want to buy it outright or sell on consignment? Many shops will pay 60/40 or even 70/30 to the artist on a consignment basis because they have no cash invested, only the space, and they take their share after it sells. If they are going to actually purchase your jewelry for wholesale, then they normally pay 50% of the retail price. I can't remember exactly where it was, but I believe Rena has a sample consignment contract on this site.

Good luck!
