Using Facebook as a Marketing Tool.

by Brandi Gray
(Floyd, Virginia )

As a marketing campaign in April we did a "Wear Your AVD in April" and asked people to take a picture wearing their favorite AVD jewelry, post it to our page and get their friends to "like" it.

The person with the most "likes" won a $75 gift certificate and anyone who posted a picture would be entered into a drawing to win a $25 gift certificate.

Our goal was to increase our fan base and "likes" to around 700. We started at about 350. This campaign was very successful and we exceeded our goal and ended up with 725 "likes".

One girl that participated had close to 400 "likes" on her pictures. (The participants could post as many pictures as they like and the points were cumulative.)

It was a fun and interactive way to drive customers to our Facebook page and ultimately (hopefully) our website. Our Facebook page is Anne Vaughan Designs if people would like to go and check out the series of posts and marketing we did. We hope this helps!

What a fantastic idea!!!

Facebook Jewelry Promotion Idea
by: Rena

Awesome, Brandi! Your gift certificate, combined with encouraging people to post pictures and earn points is a fantastic idea. It sounds like this strategy could also be a good one to run as part of a seasonal (Christmas, Valentine, etc.) promotion.

Thanks so much for sharing your great technique, and the results it brought you!

Clever Idea!

What a great way to get more people to see your work, and especially to see it worn on "real" people!

great idea.. but..

What a nice idea to make the most of your page. Unfortunately it looks like Facebook is making it harder now to use your page for promotions as they keep changing their terms and conditions.

Facebook terms and Conditions
by: Brandi

After looking at the fb terms and conditions, you are right. You would have to tweek what we did in order to be within guidelines.

Staying compliant with Facebook
by: Rena

Helenka, that's an excellent point - always be sure to check the Facebook Promotions Guidelines before starting any kind of campaign there. One of their requirements is:

"You will not offer any contest, giveaway, or sweepstakes ("promotion") on Facebook without our prior written consent. If we consent, you take full responsibility for the promotion, and will follow our Promotions Guidelines and all applicable laws."

Also read Facebook's Terms and Conditions before devising your strategies there.

Since FB makes frequent changes to the way they operate, it's a good idea to check these two pages before EVERY marketing thing you do there, to be sure there isn't a new rule you aren't aware of.
