I supply to a gift shop and gallery and provide the owners with a printed inventory of the pieces I've supplied them with.

These images look their best when they are all on white backgrounds which blend into the paper colour.

Unfortunately pearl products are difficult to photograph on a white background so I use a bright yellow to photograph them on and then remove the yellow using photo editing software.

Thanks for the tip on photographing pearl jewelry. And, by the way, that is a very attractive topaz bracelet.

I can totally understand why a white background would be better for printing jewelry inventory photos.

Thanks so much for sharing your great tips - especially the point about using the yellow background for white pearls. Genius! :o)

Way to go!

I've been doing similarly with my scans of my pieces and using the "erase" utilities in my graphics program. Now I've learned how to use the mask function and for my pieces with lots of tiny bits of background to separate this is a great time-saver making this viable for my photographed works as well. I also add my own backgrounds for web use.

Try experimenting and you'll see what i mean.
