Selling Unique Jewelry Online

How do you avoid selling a one of a kind piece to more than one buyer using PayPal online? Is there a way to stop the second buyer if the item has already sold? My jewelry items are each unique and can't be duplicated. I am setting up my website, and I would appreciate an answer to this. Thanks.

Selling One-of-a-Kind Jewelry Online

At the moment I don't think PayPal has a way of ensuring that one-of-a-kind items can be bought only once.

Your best bet would probably be to use a PayPal-friendly shopping cart that has an "inventory control system".

"Inventory control" means that when you set up your item in the shopping cart, you can enter the quantity of that item that you have available for sale.

(For a unique item, obviously the quantity you'd enter would be "1".)

When that quantity has been sold through the shopping cart, your customers will see that the item is "sold out" instead of seeing the option to "buy now".

PayPal offers a list of third-party shopping carts that work with PayPal.

Personally, I have used the E-junkie shopping cart with PayPal as a payment processor, and would highly recommend it if you decide to go the shopping cart route. It's simple, has an excellent inventory control system, and works very well.

Best of luck in selling your jewelry online!

e-junkie question

In this article you recommend e-junkie. I checked your website to see if you sell any of your jewelry from the site itself and see that you do not have a shopping cart for your jewelry. May I then assume you are using it for selling your books/downloads only?

Yes, that's right. Currently I'm not selling my jewelry online. I've used e-Junkie for my books and have found it a very easy system to use.

And for limited-quantity items, like handmade jewelry, e-Junkie also has an "inventory control" feature where you can enter the quantity of each item you have available - which prevents the problem of someone ordering five of a necklace design when you have only one.

There are also lots of other checkout / shopping cart options - if you do a Google or Bing search you can turn up a variety of online "tools" that can serve this purpose.

I hope this helps! :)
