Scanning Jewelry - Making Photos Look More Professional

by Donna

In your writeup about Photographing Jewelry with Scanners I read the suggestion to place a small box outside of the jewelry so the scanner lid does not crush jewelry.

I also put a black cloth around cover of scanner to prevent light, but while previewing picture, there is always a is a blueish background. Also, shiny glass stones cast a shadow.

Is there anything I can do to enhance the professional look of the picture? Is this normal?

Thank you.

Donna

Making Scanned Jewelry Photos Look Better
by: Rena

Yes, you can most definitely enhance the professional look of scanned jewelry photos.

One of the most important parts of jewelry photography is editing the photo - whether you've shot it using a scanner or a digital camera.

In Photo Editing I explain the basics of editing jewelry photos, including several free online photo editing tools you can use.

Also Stephenie Gardella shares her helpful expertise on using the free Gimp photo editor in Gimp Photo Editing.

Once you've played with editing your jewelry images a bit, I think you'll see how to reduce the blueness of your background and white out any shadows you want to get rid of.

Also - when setting up your jewelry shots on your scanner glass, you may want to experiment with using different fabric and paper backgrounds between your jewelry and the scanner lid, to reduce the blue background color.

Good luck, Donna!
