Purchasing from the Same Artist

by Katelynn

I purchased wonderful hand blown glass bead jewelry at a craft fair last year. At Christmas, I again purchased from the same artist at another craft fair.

I definitely would rather buy hand crafted because I would rather support an artist than a chain store importing junk from another country. When you purchase hand crafted items, you are supporting the local economy and buying a work of art.

I bought the first item for myself, and enjoyed it so much I looked up the artist on the web, made a note of the next fair she would be at and went specifically to purchase more of her work as gifts for my sisters.

I would purchase from the same artist again because she continues to have new designs. Her work is high quality and really quite beautiful. She does not make a dozen pieces that are about the same, each piece is really different from the others.

I enjoy shopping at craft fairs, but I do not like the fact that often there is a entrance fee to get into the fair, which means I have that many less dollars to spend on art! Entrance should be free.

At craft fairs you have an opportunity to meet the artist, I enjoy that.

I think an artist should have a wide range of prices and styles available for shoppers. Each piece should be really unique. if I wanted to buy mass produced, I would go to walmart.

I would like to see more craft co-ops, so one could shop anytime, not just when the craft fair is running. A co-op could offer work by many jewelry artists, or even many artists of different kinds, painting, fabrics, pottery, jewelry, etc.

A co-op would make overhead on a store front reasonable I think and if everyone shared the duty of "shopkeeper", then it would be fair.
