My husband and I design and handcraft Southwest-inspired jewelry, principally necklaces. These pieces are substantial, often featuring pendants and 3-4 strands of Turquoise, Coral, Amber, etc.

We have invested in several glass cases and numerous necklace forms for displaying our jewelry at Art Festivals, but when we arrange these cases / forms and necklaces on top of two (2) six-foot long folding tables everything seems cramped.

We are concerned that our prospective customers may have trouble viewing our pieces, and if overwhelmed, may pass us by.

Additionally, our set up is heavy -- each glass case weights 30 lbs. plus our EZ up Show tent, tables, tent weights, etc.

Does anyone have suggestions for affordable, lightweight displays that would allow us to make better use of our booth space (10' x 10') and better display our necklaces?

I met a retired couple who lived for years in a motorhome, driving from show to show, and all of their displays and tables for a 10x20' space broke down and fit in the motorhome. Boxes in sets of three made of 1/4" plywood were nested when stored under the benches in the motorhome, and when stacked up on the table, stepped back like "stairs" or risers on which the busts rested. They had black cloths to cover the wood. They used glass breezeway blocks and boards, as well. And they also had found a folding twig shelving unit that collapsed flat, but the shelves were strong enough to hold the busts and jewellery.

Could you substitute plexiglass for some of the interior shelves of the display cases, if not eventually remake the cases using plexi instead of glass?

Your display looks absolutely great, btw, but I too understand the weight thing!

I know there are great plexiglass displays that would be lighter. Tents--you got to have the weight, as if the tent were to take flight and damage others property you would be responsible. Not sure if there is a fix for this. The display having varying height is good. Do you raise your tables at all? This could also add a variance. Use PVC pipe to fit legs. On the Wire Sculpture site they have some great ideas about display through Dale Cougar Armstrong.

same boat...different solution

We have decided to leave the glass cases in the various galleries we show in.

We are working on a plan to use the walls (some sort of something zip tied to the canopy frame...and then just have one spectacular table with a few of our upper-end pieces.

I came up with this idea when I realized that after "spying" on many jewelers at craft fairs...the one I remember the most was where she used the walls...instead of the floor space. It created plenty of room for LOTS of customers...and she could walk around and talk about the pieces with ease.
