After 4 years and about 12 shows I will give you my best advice for a successful jewelry show:

Before spending any money on a booth take some time to visit the show.

I am from Montreal and I spent 20 000$ on a show in Vancouver where I had 4 customers - ouch!!!

Be ready, first make sure that your items are good sellers.

You can put a few things in a local store just to see what will sell the fastest. Then produce a lot of what sell best and get a lot of them.

Make a lot of jewelry, but also make some times to rest before the show.

Usually customers are not too attracted by someone half dead behind the counter.

My experience told me that what you sell is not even 50% of the sale.

Energetic, attractive, smiling, happy people are usually having a much greater success than the other.

Make sure that you can carry your booth easily.

That way, when everybody wants to leave at the same time at the end of the show you will be very happy!

Thanks so much for sharing these tips, Claire! I agree completely with all of them.

I think the one about "making time to rest before the show" is the one we jewelry artists most often neglect. Especially artists who have families and day jobs that also need their time.
