Marking Wire Jewelry
as You Create It

- and removing the marks when the piece is finished

In making wire wrap jewelry I often times find it necessary to measure and mark on the piece of work. For a long time I struggled with the proper marking tool.

If I used pencil the markings would often wipe away before I had completed the project. If I used a more permanent marker I found my markings would stay on so well that getting the marking off was difficult.

As much as I hated the clean up after I chose to use the morepermanent approach and I stuck with the old tried and true Sharpie.

One day I was setting on the couch trying to buff off Sharpie marks as my wife was doing her nails on the couch next to me.

She was using fingernail polish remover to take off her fingernail polish.

I decided to try fingernail polish remover on the sharpie markings on my work.

This stuff is great! Just a small amount on a cotton ball cleaned the entire bracelet I was working on.

I now use fingernail polish remover on a regular basis to clean my work.

If you need from time to time to mark your work I recommend a fine tip Sharpie marker.

To clean the remaining Sharpie marks off your work, a cotton swab lightly doused in fingernail polish remover works every time.

I have even discovered fingernail polish remover works well on rough slabs, cabochons and gem stones. When cleaning a porous stone I have let the stone set in the solution for a few minuets, then the marks will rinse away.

Jeff and Mary Tullock of Wrap It Up Jewelry create the finest quality wire wrap jewelry by hand cutting their own cabochons and gemstones, and then wrapping them in 14kt rolled gold or sterling silver.
