Jewelry as Business Gifts

a profitable jewelry niche
with repeat sales

A couple of years ago, I was approached by a district manager for a national skin care and beauty consultant business. She had seen my jewelry at a fashion show, and wanted to develop a rewards program for her consultants.

Her idea was to give any consultant who made their monthly sales goal a gift as a reward, and handcrafted jewelry was a perfect solution!

She gave me free rein on the jewelry to make for the program - the only guidance was that she wanted something that would be ongoing for about a year, and she gave me a budget to work with.

I proposed that for the first month, the consultants would receive a sterling silver charm holder pendant on a leather lace necklace. Each month thereafter, if the consultant made their goal, they'd receive a sterling silver charm to put on the charm holder. I designed my U R Charmed pendants specifically for this project.

The program was a huge success - consultants really worked to get those monthly rewards! Each month, I'd receive an order for pendants and charms, which I then packaged with a "Congratulations!" card that included my business information and care instructions.

After one year, the district manager asked me to come up with something for the next year.

I proposed a bracelet with removable ends, and colored freshwater pearl "charms" for each month. She loved the idea, and again, so did the consultants! Another add on that was requested were matching earrings for consultants who had made their goal for three months consecutively.

This type of program could work with any business that uses sales or other monthly goals as incentives. The key components that have worked for me are:

  • Jewelry that I can remake easily and stays within my client's budget.
  • Jewelry that can be built upon - adding the charms each month allows the recipient to show off how many months she's made her goal!
  • Packaging that acknowledges the consultant's success, lets her know how to care for the jewelry, and provides my business information.

Soon, it will be time to plan for the third year of the program. I'm really excited to work on another project for the team!
