After several years of making beaded jewelry and selling to friends and co-workers, my sister and I decided it was time to take the next step.

Neither of us had ever created a website, and were novices about setting up an internet-based business, but once the seed was planted, there was nothing left to do but let it grow until, amazingly, this morning we became official as our website went live.

Would love to have you visit our site and let us know what you think....

Good Job

Love it + a Tip

Overall, your site has a great design, with striking colors--and I love the title too. You can add on all sorts of girly tings as well.

Ready to tweak? Get a piece of your jewelry on the top--move the purple "Welcome" sign to the left. Also edit the paragraph copy to be shorter and move that flush left. Then put one of your favorite pieces in the now-empty white space on the right--so people will immediately see something they want to buy--and change the piece often.

One more thing--the top menu bar is very, very faint. Maybe that should be in purple or black

Lotsa luck!

Thanks for the Suggestions
by: Pat Mulock

Susan,

Thanks so much for the suggestions. Neither my sister nor I have ever designed a website before, so it's been a real experience trying to pull together something we'd both be proud to have others see. Nice to know we have a good start. She's the WebMaster, so I'll make sure she sees your comments as well. We have some limitations on what we can do based on the tool we're using, but hopefully it won't keep us from at least trying to do some of what you've outlined.

Great Title and love the color and layout of your home page. I agree with the other Susan that it does need at least one piece of jewelry. Other than that, it's really striking and happy looking.

Thanks for the comments

Pam and I are both drawn to stronger colors, and these were our shared favorites. Glad to hear we made a good choice!

There's a small 'slideshow' on the first page below the first paragraph.... based on your comments, are you not able to see it? The template used to build our homepage isn't too flexible; we're trying to find out if the area for the various sections can be resized so that we can make that area larger.

Great colors. You definitely need a piece of fabulous jewelry near your name. Also, those slide shows are extremely frustrating ... when I want to shop, I want to see thumbnail pictures of items in their proper categories, i.e., necklaces, bracelets, earrings, etc., not some fancy shmanchy slideshow. By the way, not all of the items on your page one slide show came up in your gallery slideshow. I would delete the slideshows and categorize your items with thumbnail pictures. The slideshows were pretty and I'm sure they took much time to create, but I think they will be a turnoff to customers/designers like me who just want to see the jewelry quickly.

Best of luck to you both.

Thanks for visiting our site and we certainly appreciate your comments. I just want to clarify the layout of our site. The gallery that you visited is just that; a place where people can get a sense of our designs and style. We have an online store that you can choose from our home page (the last tab across the top). This will take you to all of the items we have for sale. There are thumbnails by category as well as thumbnails for each of the products within each category. Once you find something of interest, simply click on the picture to see more details. You can get a closeup of the item at this point along with a description. It's obvious I need to darken the color of the tabs across the top, so people can more easily see the pages that are available to them. I invite you to visit our website again to take a look at our store. We'd love to hear what you think of our designs. Thanks.

Made some changes
by: Pam

Well, I took another look at our site and made some changes to the format. Again, it's still a work in progress, but I did put some pics in the header and it definately catches you eye more. Also the navigation line is a lot easier to see.
Take another look and let me know

Congratulations on the new site

I believe the home page is very welcoming, and I find everything pleasing to the eye as far a colors and arrangements go, to be honest, I pay more attention to the jewelry itself than to a page design. Although you do want a welcoming page and design, I believe your time might be now better invested in your products photograph. Alas, I might be biased because I love taking pictures. I would like to see more close-ups of your pieces, see the detail in them. I cannot hold them with my hands, so seeing as much detail as I can will help me feel as if I did. There is a colorful bracelet for instance, that even though I enlarged the picture, I could not see what the beads were made of or what design they had. It is good that you use props for your pictures, but I do not need to seet the glass in its entirety, I would rather the picture be filled with the jewelry. Anyway, perhaps a light box or taking pictures outdoors will help. Overall, congratulations on the start of your online business!
