I Prefer the Internet for Variety and Unusual Jewelry

by Beth Parnell-Jordan

I often purchase handcrafted jewelry online, from various websites. I absolutely love the Internet for shopping for handcrafted jewelry, because of the amount and variety of items available.

I choose to purchase handmade items instead of mass-produced because I want something that is unique. I like to wear items that gain attention. I also like to wear jewelry that not everyone else owns.

Considering that I am buying online, the items that most catch my attention are those that are photographed well. If I can clearly see the jewelry and the detail, I am more likely able to make a decision on whether I like it or not.

If I am able to imagine wearing those items myself, I am more likely to seriously consider buying them.

Original work is the best. The item that I am considering must have something about it that makes it stand out from the rest.

I believe that if I am choosing to buy handmade, then it should not be something that I can easily purchase from any store or for cheap.

That's why I look for it online.

New in the jewelry business
by: Donna

I have been making jewelry for about 5 years because I simply could not find affordable one of a kind jewelry, and of course I love the look and feel of natural stones.

For those first five years I made pieces for friends and family, researched, took many classes, and gave classes at my home for anyone who wanted to make their own jewelry.

Several months ago a friend wanted to make a piece for her mother. After doing so, she was so hooked she decided to go into business with me.

Together we have started this new venture, Earth Art By Avi, LLC. Our website is currently under construction. It is important for me to know what my customers are looking for, so the information being provided by readers on this web is most helpful.

Thanks to all who have responded. And kudos to Rena Klingenberg for giving us this space and opportunity.

Thank for the Insight!

Thanks for sharing your comments. I have been making jewelry for years and finally launched a real business a couple of months ago. My website www.linnygirldesigns.com is now up and running and it sure helps to hear what the customer might be thinking.

Your thoughts are invaluable!

Great comments
by: Miss Ladysmith

Thank you for these great comments - I am beginning to lose heart in some respects, as I always try to create unique, timeless pieces yet I seem to suffer with lack of sales compared to other makers that seem to churn out the same old stuff!

Reading comments such as this one reinforce my belief that there are plenty of people out there that do want unique, handcrafted jewelry...

Not sure whether I'm allowed to mention my shop but here goes.. www.missladysmith.com
I'm also on Etsy, all links can be found on my website!

I'm now going to go and make something with my new found belief!

Thank you!
