I Need to See Detailed Photos
by Sherrie Nagle
(Fort Worth)
When I buy handcrafted jewelry I tend to buy it at Etsy.com. Though you can't actually touch and examine the jewelry in person, I think there are a lot of advantages to this sort of marketing versus, say, a craft fair.
First, good photography can illuminate small details that I wouldn't necessarily see if I were looking at a whole booth full of merchandise.
That would be my biggest tip for crafters looking to sell stuff online - learn to take really nice, really high-quality photos. I know that's the biggest draw when I'm looking at places like Etsy.
I've bought for both myself and others, particularly for birthdays and holidays. If I liked an artist enough, I absolutely frequent that online shop again.
