I Don't Buy Mass-Produced Jewelry

by Linda Aiken Janssen

I have previously purchased hand-crafted jewelry at fairs, and on a rare occasion in a store. I find I seldom go out of my way to seek out jewelry, it needs to cross my path.

I have not bought jewelry on-line and doubt I would for myself. I need to see how it feels and looks on me to convince me to buy it.

Whenever possible I opt for handcrafted items for increased quality and unique designs. The chances of getting ooh's and ahh's over something I grabbed in the ugly section of Target are slim to none.

If you've shopped mass-market lately you know somewhere they are competing at creating the ugliest baubles possible.

I prefer style, design and taste and am willing to pay more for it.

Also, I have sensitive skin so I find the cheap jewelry available at the store unacceptable. I have seldom experienced problems with handcrafted items.

When shopping at fairs, the booths with the more unique displays catch my attention and, generally, coerce more funds from my pocketbook.

The use of mosses, rice, branches or other natural elements worked into the display generally has created more of a feel-good display, at least for me.

An artist that is in touch with nature is more likely to create something I will desire.
