Argentium is a fabulous new alloy of Sterling Silver. In place of some of the copper of the traditional alloy, it contains a metaloid called Germanium, which forms an outer layer that significantly reduces tarnish.

When Argentium does tarnish, it takes on a very soft grey colour.

To clean Argentium sterling silver jewelry, simply use a mild dish washing liquid and a soft brush. Add a bit of water, brush gently for a minute or two and rinse well.

Gently shake off and then dry under a blow dryer until the piece is completely dry. Do not put away wet.

To keep it looking its best for longer, seal in a plastic bag with a strip of non-tarnish paper, or a package of desiccant.

Argentium and Sunscreen

A word of caution with argentium. Argentium can take on a rather ugly black color if it comes in contact with some sunscreens.
