How to break into well established shows?

by Mouse
(Orlando FL)

I'm fairly new to this area and I'm applying to all my local art shows and Ren Faires.

I've gotten into a couple and have done well, but for the most part, the artists who have exhibited at these shows have done so for years, so there is precious little opportunity to find an open spot.

The jewelry spots in particular fill up as soon as entries are accepted. At one show, I was put on the wait list and I got into that, but I'll never do it again; at least not there.

I was put in a section of the show quite a ways away from the main group of artists, and not even the volunteers knew they added more booths down there. Any suggestions?

Mouse,

You could try getting to know those who run the shows. Maybe if you got to them on a more personal level you will get a better in road. You will also make contacts who have similar interests and business as yourself and may benefit in the creative process as well.

Selling your jewelry - at shows and alternative venues

Hi Mouse,

Lee has a great idea - getting to know influential people in your local art / craft community. When I began doing that, a lot of excellent things started happening for my jewelry business.

Also, here are some more helpful suggestions on this site for places to sell your jewelry (via trunk shows, private showings, other events, etc.):
