How to Add a Facebook Widget to Your Website

I have long been trying to figure out how to add a Facebook widget to my website that will direct customers to my Facebook Business Page.

The one available on Facebook was a "Like" button and I searched and searched and could not find the correct button and/or HTML anywhere.

So I decided to review some websites on learning HTML and also combined that with HTML provided by Twitter to figure out how to add the Facebook widget.

I thought I would share the information here.

I obtained the Facebook icon from Photobucket and adjusted the HTML for my specific Facebook Page.

Here is the HTML code to enter on your site to obtain the link:

<a href="http://ENTER YOUR FACEBOOK PAGE URL HERE"><img src="http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/ss181/chiroty/facebook-icon.png" border="0" width=50 height=50 alt="Visit Us on Facebook"></a>

Where it says ENTER YOUR FACEBOOK PAGE URL HERE, this is where you will insert your specific URL. For instance my URL is the following:

www.facebook.com/pages/lulu-jewelry-boutique/251241123229.

Therefore, my HTML code on my pages looks like this:

<a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/lulu-jewelry-boutique/251241123229"><img src="http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/ss181/chiroty/facebook-icon.png" border="0" width=50 height=50 alt="Visit Us on Facebook"></a>

I hope this helps anyone looking to promote their personal website and Facebook page.

Facebook Widget Image

Hi Laurie,

Thanks so much for sharing your research and this helpful tip with HTML code!

The only change I would suggest is that you save the image to your own website or blog's hosting (or other image hosting account you own), and then change your HTML code to use the Facebook icon's image code from your own hosting.

Otherwise, each time someone accesses one of your pages that has your FB widget on it, you'll be using the bandwidth of the person's Photobucket account where you found the image.

Also, if the owner of that Photobucket account ever removes the Facebook icon image from his/her account, your web pages will be showing a "red x" or empty image where the widget used to be.

Other than that, this is a great example of doing DIY tech stuff successfully with a little bit of research!

Thanks, Laurie!

Thanks Rena! I have updated this and saved the image to my own hosting and then linked from there. Thanks for the tip!

You're welcome! :o)
