How Much to Charge for Teaching a Jewelry Class
I've been asked to teach some jewelry workshops at a hip bead store. They rightly want to know what I want to be paid. I have no idea what salaries are typically paid for this, and how they are paid (per student, per hour, per workshop?)
Any advice for me? Thanks in advance!
Answer:
Setting a Fee for Teaching Jewelry Classes

How much to charge? See if the shop will agree to paying you a per-student fee, with a guaranteed minimum fee.
If the shop is selling all the project supplies directly to the students (which I'm assuming they are), then you are being paid for your time and expertise. And the fee for this can vary widely, depending on your location and the type of class being taught.
Generally workshops involving more advanced skills or more advanced equipment tend to cost more.
If the shop has held classes before, can you find out how much the instructors charged? Or if you know the name of a previous workshop instructor there, could you contact him / her and find out how they charged?
Also check with other bead stores in your area and see how much they pay instructors (or if you can't find that out, ask how much they charge for classes, and how many students attend their classes - and work out an estimate of what they pay the instructor from that information).
I wish I could give you more concrete figures, but so much depends on where you live, what the project is, and what the bead store is willing to pay.
