Many people invest in actual safes for storing jewelry and other valuables at home.
However, some types of home safes are more secure than others.
Keep in mind that a small safe that can hide in a closet is unfortunately portable and can easily be carried away. A larger safe can be very heavy, making it difficult to carry away - but it's also harder to hide and takes up a lot of space.
I personally favor home safes that have a drilled space set into a floor - also known as "floor safes". These safes are smaller than your average wall safe or full-standing safe. They are not portable, they are hidden from sight, and you can cover them easily to conceal them from a potential thief.
Ideally, they are located in basements or on the bottom floor of a home, because they can be drilled through concrete.
Many people also have home alarm systems to help prevent theft.
While there are no guarantees that an alarm would keep your home from being burglarized, alarm signs posted on windows or doors could deter a potential home invasion.
However, if burglars did break into a home with an alarm, they should only have 2 to 3 minutes to find any valuables before the police showed up. If they would come across a safe, they wouldn't have the time to open it, nor the time to ransack a home to find jewelry that's hidden in unlikely spots.
