Fear of Making It Real

I've been making jewelry for a long time - since high school. I love working with gems and metal to create new designs.

For quite a while, my selling jewelry was just an extension of making it: I sold a lot of pieces at work, so I started at craft shows, etc.

Now, my designs are getting more intricate and I'm working with higher quality materials which is great, but I'm afraid of losing my love of jewelry making, because I have to spend so much time on the business aspects.

I had a professional logo designed last year, now I need to update my website (which I created myself).

Also, looking for better quality shows has me pulling my hair out (figuratively).

I know these are things that can be overcome, but I seem to spend more time stressing about the PR aspect than I do making jewelry. (Phew! It felt good to let this out!)

Making Your Jewelry Business Fun Again
by: Rena

Hi Dawn,

I love your jewelry -and I can relate to your story!

Sometimes the business aspect can overshadow the fun of the artistic aspect. It's sometimes hard to remember that deliciously addictive fun of turning raw components into jewelry designs.

Does it feel like you're in the uncomfortable stage of getting set up to take the next step?

Or does it feel more like your inner self is saying, "I don't think this is a direction I want to go"?

Do you think that if you had help - such as the support of a networking group like one of the Craft Mafias or Etsy Teams - you could break through this phase more easily?
