Display Ideas for a Jewelry Basket Party

Deborah's fused glass jewelry

I am just starting selling my fused glass jewelry after years of doing mosaic art and it is a lot different displaying small items than it is with so many small things like jewelry.

I have 2 people who want to have jewelry basket parties at the schools they work at.

So far I have been transporting my jewelry in small vintage suitcases with plastic organizers in them.

I have painted my business name on and added a couple pictures of my jewelry on the suitcases.

I would like to come up with something for the basket parties where I can organize the jewelry in a way the chains won't get tangled and would be easy for my hostesses to just open or unwrap to display the jewelry.

I have been looking for a pattern for a jewelry roll but they don't hold near enough jewelry. So, do you have any suggestions?

I would love to find a pattern for something I can make so that it represents me and my business style.

Oh, and I won't be going to the schools to drop off and display my jewelry so that is one reason I want something where all they have to do is open or unroll it and the jewelry is ready to display.

Thanks for such a fantastic web site and all your help.

Display for Jewelry Party in a Basket
by: Rena

Hi Deborah,

For this type of shopping event, I usually put each item in a clear ziplock jewelry baggie along with its tag / card and one of my business cards.

Now the jewelry is protected as people look it over, yet they can still take a piece out of its baggie if they want to try it on.

This prevents chains and necklaces from tangling, tags from getting bent, and keeps earring pairs together.

Plus it makes it easy for the jewelry party guests to pass the items around and look at them.

You can put the baggied jewelry into whatever type of containers or tote bags work best for you.

I like to use interesting mini-trunks for the guests to shop from, and I know another jewelry artist who uses a tote bag with lots of organizer compartments.

Trays

Have you thought of using jewelry trays with velvet inserts? They can be found at most craft stores (i.e. Michael's, they stack easily and the velvet gives it a nice touch. All you would have to do is find a case/container to stack all of your trays inside...this would also make it easy for you to transport. You hostess would simply lay the trays out on a table! You can have your jewelry laying in the trays or place them in plastic bags like the previous comment suggests. (This is the set-up I use and it works great!)
Good luck!

I use black trays with black beans (bought at your local grocery store). i get lots of comments on it. i live near the ocean so i also use big seashells to lay the bracelets and necklaces over it.

Suggestion for transporting jewelry
by: Pam B

I found a neat thing at RioGrande. (hope it's ok to use the site name here.) It's a nylon case that is on wheels, much like an overnite bag, and it has a side opening. It holds 11 standard sample trays, stacked and the trays fit exactly to the inside of the bag and hold up the soft sides. Trays are bought separately, and I just bought the plastic ones instead of the pricier wood type. They are great! Molded and plenty strong, they stack, and you can buy almost any setup of inserts (for necklaces, earrings, bracelets) or just leave them without inserts. I'm leaving mine without, as I'll be using other display equipment, but if you were just going to lay them flat out on a table this would work great! Just set the jewelry up at home, on the velvety inserts, go to your venue, pull 'em out of the case and lay them on tables, and you're set to go!

I am actually getting ready to do craft shows for the first time in over a decade, and I bought this thinking it would be plenty of space for transporting my jewelry. I'm now thinking of springing for the aluminum version, which holds 24 trays! I'm hinting around to my hubby that this would make a great early Xmas gift! Check them out at Rio - the nylon one is not too extravagantly priced, and those plastic trays are awesome! if you put inserts in them, they'd be quite elegant and won't show scratches like the wood ones might. I'm even using them now on my lap to do projects in front of the TV in the evenings!

Good luck with your school shows! Sounds like fun!

Display for jewelry basket party
by: Janet

Hi --

I found a way to display my jewelry (and I believe I got the info from this site). I work in a law firm and someone is always asking to see my jewelry. I went to Staples and was looking for the large black binders. Well, lo and behold, I found large binders with a canvas zip covering in different colors with inside and outside pockets. Also has space for me to put my pens, receipt books and business cards. I purchased the baseball card size clear inserts, they can hold earrings or small pendants, the inserts with two sections for bracelets and the whole page inserts for necklaces (also from Staples). I sorted my jewelry into categories and filled the binders (I purchased two of them.) Now I can carry my jewelry to work whenever someone asks to see my work without having to carry a big, bulky jewelry case. The binders have a short handle and a long strap. I also used Velcro to close the tops of the inserts so my jewelry would not fall out. So all of you out there who schlep your jewelry around, try this method, it works for me.

P.S. I even took my jewelry to my sisters for a pool party she was having last weekend!
