Details that Add Value
to Jewelry Workshops

© by Rena Klingenberg; all rights reserved

There are many easy, inexpensive little details that add value to jewelry workshops. Some don’t cost anything. Small touches can make a big impact on students’ perceived value of the class!

Here are some details that I have found to be very worthwhile, and that receive a very positive response:

  • Professional packaging - At the end of the workshop, provide special packaging for each person’s finished creation, something that makes it seem like “real” jewelry. I use inexpensive but beautiful velvet pouches, but there are also satin pouches, interesting little boxes, glossy cardboard jewelry boxes, decorative bags . . . research what’s out there! See Packaging Jewelry for ideas.

  • A record of the "ingredients" - Provide small fancy cards and pens so each person can write down what gemstones or other materials they used in their creation.

  • Seasonal projects and colors - Be conscious of the current season when you plan workshops. What colors, clothing styles, and jewelry fashions are especially hot right at the moment?

  • Jewelry trend insider tips - What’s coming up on the jewelry horizon? Keep yourself informed and share this information with your class. It enhances your reputation as an expert in the field, and it’s a little boost that helps them stay fashion-forward, which they appreciate!

  • Gemstone lore - What are the metaphysical properties and lore of gemstones used in your students' designs? Print out and distribute copies of Gemstone Lore, or bring the book “Love is in the Earth: A Kaleidoscope of Crystals” by Melody. It’s the most comprehensive guide on this topic. People LOVE this information!

  • Other jewelry related handouts - Provide them with printouts of birthstones and anniversary stones. You could even give them small printed cards with this information on one side, and your contact information on the other side. People always want to know gemstone lore and meanings.
