Amethyst Priestess Bracelet

Amethyst Priestess Bracelet

I am an online retailer myself, selling handmade jewelry. So far I have found that having good descriptions is key.

However, my main problem is remembering the mm measurements of the various stones I use! So I know I need to pay better attention to that detail, as it is important.

I definitely think that people shopping online need to be clear on the materials you use and the quality of those materials. Otherwise, how will they know what they are buying?

I always look at others' jewelry websites to know what the competition is up to.

Usually, I am drawn and impressed by the jewelers who have nice, artsy, but clear photographs of their items. I especially like when you see more than one picture of an item.

I am trying to figure out how to do this on my website. No luck as of yet, because I used a drag and drop site builder which doesn't give you much leeway for these kind of details.

Any advice is welcome!

Next thing, I have found that offering a promotion for a limited period of time seems to attract more business.

For example, right now I am offering a free pair of earrings when someone makes a purchase exceeding $100.

Ok... that's just my little tid bit!

Love and Light,

Good ideas
by: Rena

Hi Jennifer,

First I must say I love your photo above. The crystal makes a lovely, contrasting background for your bracelet!

Good point about remembering to add the mm measurements when selling jewelry online.

Even though I make jewelry, I also love to buy and wear pieces made by other jewelery artists. When I'm shopping online, one measurement that often seems to be omitted is the length of necklaces.

I read in your blog that you were the sole gift provider at an office holiday party - what a great opportunity! Will you be making it an annual event?

And your free earring gift for purchases over $100 is a good idea. Many folks will gladly put one more item in their online shopping cart in order to get a free piece of jewelry, free shipping, or other benefit.

I use the web host www.arthost.biz and they give you plenty of space to have more than one picture, its easy to use and is reasonably priced!

www.AnnaLemonsJewelry.com if you want to look at my site, which I don't update as often as I should!

Free Gallery App
by: Rachel

Back when I sold on eBay, I used to use this free image gallery program that allows you to create a gallery with several photos, but it's saved as a single image file (so I didn't have to pay an extra photo fee). It's been a couple of years since I've used it, but it worked great, looked very professional and was very easy to use back then. I can only imagine that it has probably improved over time.

Here is where you can download it (and some other cool free tools).

Add a measured image
by: DC Smith

One way to get across the idea of size is to put a familiar "measure" into the picture. A dime, a small ruler, a nice bright shiney penny etc. That way when looking at a relatively small bead, the customer will be able to tell the size. Not every customer is going to be measurement savy!
Also, you can inset several small pictures into one image with some relatively inexpensive image processing software. I do that with my dichroic fused glass because the patterns and images I fuse into them can change with the direction of the light and to show the color shift, I put a small image in the corner of the main image to show how it would look when viewed from a different angle.
My advise: step out of the box and play with it a while. Experimentation is key to developing a unique look to both your medium and your presentation.

I always get some very good advice when reading this site. You have wonderful ideas and I usually use several of them with my website. I am a newcomer, so to speak, and am always trying new things. Please check out my website ByBarbara.etsy.com and let me know what you think.

Thank you so much.

Hi Jennifer
As for the pictures, I suggest you to download Picasa, it's a software that allows you to work wonders with your pictures, either to upload them to the www and share it with friends as albums as well as to edit the pictures you take leting you add light, contrast, etc etc. I think it will help you a lot. SOmetimes you don't even need to take a picture with flash because it kinda modifies the original color. With this software you can add the light right after and it looks almost perfect!
Good luck!
