Creativity Yields Income Opportunities

After years of creating art and selling my paintings, I decided to try handcrafted jewelry. It has turned out to be a very good business for me to combine jewelry and painting. For years I created art only for myself and to give as gifts - until I took a painting class where my teacher encouraged me to sell my paintings. I was shy at first, but I put up my website and got accepted into several art shows where I displayed my paintings. When I began making handcrafted jewelry, I discovered that selling my jewelry through home parties has been very successful. I make a lot of my pieces using semiprecious gemstones, so I make my party fun by quizing my audience on the various gemstones. Everyone loves to participate and share their knowledge of the stones. I also share information on the stones and the care of jewelry, etc. I give away several door prizes, and the hostess receives a percentage of the sale of the party in free jewelry. At my shows I sell an item related to jewelry: jewelry boxes. I buy unfinshed wooden boxes and paint them, then add legs to them and put a knob on top. Many of my jewelry boxes resemble a little chest of drawers. I also make my own note cards on the computer with my original art, and have these available to buy at my shows as well. Since I started making jewelry I've had people approach me to repair and redo their jewelry or make a custom piece. So I've learned to keep an open mind and let my creative flair spill over into the many opportunities to make a sale. Author Patricia Snow of Patricia's Art Gallery sells her original paintings and handcrafted jewelry. She paints in all media and also does commission work.Return to top of Creativity Yields Income Opportunities. Return to Jewelry Home Party Success Tips. Return to Making Add-on Sales.
