Business Cards on the Cheap

My Abracadebra Designs business card

I will soon be setting up shop on Etsy, but was impatient to get some business cards out to friends.

Right now I only have a blog, but I wanted to get people looking at it, so they will be familiar with me when I set up shop.

So here's what I did.

I created my card in Microsoft Works complete with a scan of one of my necklaces. I don't have my digital camera yet, but that didn't stop me from getting a pic on the card.

I had to play around with the margins a bit and held up another random business card I had on hand to the computer to use as a template.

OK, now here's the best part.

I went to Ocean State Job Lot (a discount store) and bought 100 large, blank index cards. They are not as thick as business card paper, and are not as white, but they work for now.

Ok so if you put them through the printer one at a time and keep turning them, you can print 4 per index card.

That's 400 cards for $1.00 plus ink. Of course I didn't print 400. Only about 20 or so.

And you can go into Word and change card and picture whenever you want. I really had fun with this!!

Smart business cards
by: Kim from Ohio

Hi Debbie:

What a "crafty" way to print your own business cards. The price can't be beat. I have been thinking about creating new business cards, so this is something to consider. I use the business cards I have (which are running out!) as jewelry tags. I just punch a hole on the long end and attach with a nice string.

Thanks for your idea!

Kim

Magical card

I love your card, Debbie - it works for me, because it drew me in. I saw the picture, read the name of the shop and just HAD to read what was under it. You've created an allure and a mystery that makes the person want to find out more about your jewellery. Brilliant!

Great idea! Just a friendly fyi...if you have a paypal account, you can add buttons to your blog so people can shop right from there. Not to knock Etsy, but artfire.com doesn't charge to upload items and doesn't take a cut from any purchases. You can also add an app to Facebook to add a kiosk so your fans if you have a business page or friends can access your store without leaving Facebook!

Another idea for cheap business cards!

Whenever I need a card for my jewelry business, I just go to www.businesscardland.com, and use their free business card templates. There are so many to choose from, and you can change customize them any way you want. Then, you save the design onto your computer and, voila!! A very professional card that is ready for you to print as many as you want.
Each template is for a sheet of 8 to 10 cards per sheet, and has the tick marks for where to cut them.
I print them on regular cardstock from the craft store, which is a thicker paper, similar to the paper printers use for business cards. You can even have a design on the back of your card.
Check it out!

My business cards look great

I just took your advice on going to businesscardland.com, and made my own business cards and I think I am way happier with what I came up with on there than I could ever be with Vistaprint. I will use businesscardland for all of my business card means. Thank you so much for recommending that site to me and business women like myself.

Glad to help!

I'm so glad you tried this site for business cards.
I do use Vistaprint for my regular cards, but have used Businesscardland for other ventures of mine.
I'm even going to make a card for my daughters baby sitting business!! She doesn't need many cards, so is a better alternative to traditional cards!
