5 Reasons Why Blogging is Great for Your Jewelry Business

What is blogging, and how can it improve your online jewelry business? We all know that just having a web site isn't enough; keeping your web content freshly updated to keep visitors coming back is what really matters. But in a jewelry site fresh new content is not always easy to find, especially when you don't have the time to create new jewelry every week.

However, there is a guaranteed method for having fresh content for your site almost every day. And not only that, with this method you are even able to reach almost 100% of your target audience, plus develop a base of prospects who would look forward to catching up on it regularly. You can have all this, and more, by blogging.

Why Should You Start Blogging?

What is a blog? A blog is a web log that is updated regularly - sometimes daily, sometimes a few times a week. It contains information related to a specific topic. In some cases blogs are daily diaries about people's personal lives, political views, or even as social commentaries. Blogs can be shaped into whatever you, the author, want them to be.

So why is blogging such a great thing for your online jewelry business? Well, there are a lot of reasons, but let me tell you the five most important reasons why a blog will definitely help your jewelry web site business and increase your sales:

1. Build a Relationship with Customers

Weblogs allow you to create content and contact, and that is what your customers crave more than anything. Blogging enables you to build a more personal relationship with your customer.

You let him/her know who the person is behind the website and that there IS actually a real person behind it - not just an empty website with a shopping cart. By enabling visitors to comment on your blog entries you automatically create a one-to-one relationship and a fun way to keep them coming back.

People have the tendency to crave interesting content, they like to look in on people's lives, so keeping them entertained with pictures and stories is a great way to keep them interested in you and your jewelry!

2. Search Engines Love Blogs

Within 10 days of launching my weblog, it became the most visited page on my fairly high traffic website. That's because search engines simply crave content. Providing content, not to mention fresh content, is one of the toughest chores of anyone who maintains a website.

But when it comes to generating traffic, it is the most important job. Blogs, by their very nature, are all about content. In a commercial environment every blog entry is fresh content. Get in the habit of writing two, three, even four entries a week and you'll build a real love affair with your search engines.

Everyone knows you need new content to give visitors a reason to come back; blogging just makes the task so much easier.

3. Targeted Keywords Bring You Traffic

By using targeted keywords in your entry titles you can make your web log a traffic magnet! When I created my blog I found that it showed up within days on the number one spot in Google for the simple terms like "Crayola world" and "The Truth and Horoscopes" which were both the titles for some of my blog entries. Not bad, considering I did almost nothing to make it happen.

Just imagine what would happen if I titled one of the entries "Handmade Jewelry" or "Artisan Jewelry", which are both among my major keywords. I'd drive almost all the traffic with a link from my blog to my main jewelry site.

4. Write About What Interests You

You can blog about almost anything. If you don't want your blog to be about you, it doesn't have to be! You can write strictly about your jewelry or the making of it and drive in visitors that are interested only in this.

You can write about your creative process, your spiritual life or anything that inspires you. The most important thing is to be creative, colorful and interesting, to keep your visitors coming back for more.

5. Build a Community

The last reason is: community! You can build a great community oflike-minded people around your blog. Start by finding blogs that are of the same theme as yours and comment on their entries, leaving your web address anywhere you can.

With this you will drive visitors to your blog that usually only checked other blogs. Next, you can register with Blog Search Engines, or try trading some links. A few swapped links to related blogs can definitely boost your traffic.

So, if you can find a decent subject and get a blog up and running quickly and easily, you might be amazed at what happens to your site's page rank in just a few weeks of blogging!
