BeadForLife.org - Eradicating Poverty One Bead at a Time

Hi there! all you fellow beaders. I want to request you all to look up the website www.beadforlife.org. It's a website showcasing the turnaround that beading has created for a group of Ugandan women who had no means of livelihood and had to choose between food and aspirin on any given day.

Then they started to make these beads made from recycled paper from magazines.

You can "meet" some of the beaders and read their stories.

Please take a few moments and see if you can showcase some of their products in your next event or home party. All the directions and help with hosting a BeadForLife BeadParty is available through their website.

I am hosting a party on December 19th and am hoping to raise some money for the women and children who have been orphaned by HIV and hunger. It's helping me to focus on whatever little bit I can do, instead of focusing on shows that are unsuccessful and blaming it on the economy that we are all experiencing.

So please do something for these women and children and see your passion change someone's life.

Stay tuned for the pictures from my party soon!

Do check out Bead for Life and see that nothing is impossible!

"Eradicating Poverty One Bead at a Time"
by: Rena

Thanks so much for bringing this fantastic cause to our attention, Nupur Arora!

I spent some time reading these ladies' entrepreneurial stories, and I'm so impressed with their achievements and creativity - often in the face of major obstacles.

It's an affirmation of how much we can all achieve if we use the resources we have and just do it.

Another great organization

This is a great thing to bring to people's attention. Another non-profit that does something similar is Paper to Pearls (www.papertopearls.org)

They specifically work with the women who are living in the refugee camps, and have just started a new project with 'Child Mothers'. Those are the girls who were abducted and held captive by the rebels and then abandoned when they got pregnant. They're basically treated as 'untouchables' in the societies, and desperately need ways to support themselves. It's a great project, and has awesome beads/jewelry. I gave them to every woman in my family for their birthdays last year!

I have purchase beads from this organization. I've combined them with glass beads, a few crystals and a heart shaped button clasp for wonderful one of a kind bracelets. I have donated these bracelets to fund raising auctions so they end up benefiting not only the women who made the beads, but also local causes.

BeadForLife, "BeadParty" & Fair Trade Event
by: Claudia Gunter

I have recently become involved with BeadForLife.org and held two events. The reception was FANTASTIC. I will be hosting another event Jan. 2nd, 2010. If you are looking for an organization the REALLY puts the money back into the community they are helping, take a close look at their organization. If you are in the Chicago land area or will be around our great city after the New Year, please come by and celebrate with us! Information on the event is on my Facebook page!
