Jewelry Shopping Online: What Jewelry Customers Want from Us When They Shop on the Internet
by Rena Klingenberg
I've just posted Part 2 of my informal survey of jewelry customers - Jewelry Shopping Online - Customers Tell Us What Makes Them Buy on the Internet.
It's an inside look at what makes jewelry customers feel comfortable with buying from us online, what venues they prefer, and why they shop for jewelry via the Internet - in their own words.
I recommend reading all of the survey responses - they contain insights into our jewelry customers' needs, wants, and what's on their minds when they shop online.
As you read through them, you'll probably notice some things that come up frequently:
- Photos are an important factor in customers' decisions to buy jewelry online.
- Many of them shop for jewelry online because they want a big selection of unique pieces.
- Shopping online is a welcome convenience for people who are busy, tired, or live away from urban areas.
- The Internet makes it easy for customers to buy more jewelry from artists whose work they love.
- They like to be surprised with professional packaging when they receive their jewelry orders.
- They feel more comfortable shopping from online venues that offer a satisfaction guarantee (or some other recourse) if the jewelry doesn't turn out to be quite right for them once they see it in person.
- Many of them like to shop on Etsy because of the unique jewelry they find there.
The people who responded to this survey also took the time to give us lots of other valuable tips and suggestions for improving our online jewelry businesses and making more sales via the Web.
(Also be sure to read Part 1 of the survey, where jewelry customers who shop off-line - at art shows, craft fairs, home parties, galleries, shops, trunk shows, etc. - tell us what they want when buying handcrafted jewelry in person.)
Neat Jewelry-Related Website
Our neat site today is Ann O'Brien Jewelry.
Ann O'Brien (1951-2006) was an extraordinarily talented and imaginative wire jewelry artist. She carried wire and pliers everywhere with her, and created Art Nouveau-inspired works with beautiful, graceful lines.
Her bubble blowers, hair jewelry, and bracelets are my favorites of her pieces.
