Cool Tip:
How to Create and Use Colored Epoxy
by Gary W. Bourbonais
A.J.P. (GIA)
Devcon Two Ton (aka Jeweler's) epoxy is a product used by many jewelry folks for high strength adhesive applications.
It turns out that one can color this epoxy by the simple addition of a drop or two of Testors Model Enamel - and not lessen its adhesive power nor its cure.
Testors is readily available at almost any craft or hobby shop, and comes in an incredible assortment of colors.
To color the epoxy, measure out as usual, and mix it as directed - one minute total mixing time. At about 45 seconds of mixing, use a toothpick to add a drop or two of the enamel. Continue the mixing getting the color consistent.
Black Testors will give you a glossy opaque black; most other colors will give a translucent or transparent result.
I've used this to add a color detail to a piece...
Boost or even change the color of a stone in a set...
For some inlay...
Also as a poor man's "enamel"...
and of course as an adhesive.
It's only limited by one's imagination.
I haven't power polished any of my items, but Sunshine cloths and very fine Scotchbrite work well.
Hope this can be of use to some of the folks.
