NEWSFLASH:
A New Way to Sell Your Handcrafted Jewelry

I'm currently working on an all-new ebook, which details an exciting new way to market your jewelry to customers who are VERY willing and able to buy from you.

Last year I sold my jewelry almost exclusively in this new way, and I discovered that in this market,

  • there's practically no competition from other jewelry artists

  • I could hardly keep up with the demand for my jewelry

  • you'll get TONS of repeat business from your customers, plus more referrals than you can keep up with

  • there are NO expenses such as show fees, shop commissions, or party hostess incentives

  • people really want to buy your unique, creative pieces, not mass-produced items.

Keep a weather eye out for more details as my new ebook gets closer to being finalized!

Your Profitable Jewelry Business

"Ethical Jewelry"
and Your Jewelry Business

by Rena Klingenberg

Thanks to media coverage and the recent "Blood Diamond" film, people are increasingly aware of social and conflict issues involved in the gems, metals, and jewelry industries - and questioning where their jewelry comes from.

No one wants to think that the earrings they love have resulted in human and environmental mining tragedies, funding for terrorist and military atrocities, or unethical trade practices.

Along with these issues, an increasing number of jewelry customers are interested in wearing environmentally friendly pieces. They're seeking jewelry that's been made according to the "reduce - reuse - recycle" philosophy, from either renewable "green" sources or recycled gems and metals.

Customers whose purchasing decisions are influenced by these social and ecological issues are part of the growing "ethical jewelry" market niche. It's a niche you can feel good about serving - and as you do so, your choices will help make a positive difference in the jewelry industry and in the world.

Here are some ways you can align your jewelry business with the ethical jewelry market:

  • Educate yourself about the sources of your jewelry supplies, and be "socially responsible" about where you purchase them. Let your customers know you're taking this step.
  • Be able to discuss ethical jewelry issues with your interested customers who have questions or aren't really sure what it's all about.
  • Use less packaging when you sell your products.
  • Use recycled paper or other recycled products for your jewelry packaging - and print a small "recycled" statement right on your packaging.
  • Offer a service of remaking your customers' jewelry that they don't wear. For example, you can restyle lone earrings into pendants, give unwearable inherited jewelry a makeover, or remake out-of-style jewelry into something new and exciting.
  • Take apart your unsellable pieces of jewelry and reuse the components.
  • Put a page on your website describing your efforts and how they make a difference.
  • Learn more about ethical jewelry issues:

Neat Jewelry-Related Website

Eclectic Jewelry Artisans (EJA) is an exceptional group of 30 jewelry artisans who are joining together in one website to promote their work, instead of competing with other. Their gallery is a must-see and includes links to the individual jewelry artists' stores. Members are held to a very high standard in quality, workmanship and creativity.

There's power in numbers, and the members of this unique group promote one another in a variety of ways, including blogging, message boards, handing out flyers, and word of mouth. “It just makes more sense to promote a website with a team of people rather than go it alone, only to get lost in cyberspace. This is my primary reason for starting the team - the teamwork itself,” says Ahna White, founder of EJA.

“The trust and commitment it takes to build relationships over long-distance and via the internet is really impressive with this team,” says Kira Slye, EJA's project manager.
