Welcome!

I love having the freedom to lose track of time.

When school lets out for the summer, we relish the opportunity to forget about clocks and calendars at our house.

Often we go days at a time not knowing the date or day of the week around here, because it's not relevant to the things we're doing.

We just immerse ourselves in projects and activities that interest us - and feel free to let go of time.

I have always loved unscheduled stretches of time. They open the door to serendipity, creativity, and unexpected connections.

Most of my best work, memorable conversations, and great experiences have unfolded naturally in unscheduled spaces of time.

My wish for you this summer is enough unscheduled time to let go, to be, to create, and to flow.

~ Rena

Quick Tip:
Legally Protecting
Your Original Jewelry Works

Have you ever wondered whether you can copyright your original jewelry designs to protect them?

Or if you can legally use images, fabrics, and papers in your collage jewelry?

Copyright violation and protecting your creativity are serious issues in the world of handmade jewelry.

But unfortunately the maze of legal information on this topic can be hard for us to make any sense of.

So Etsy's in-house attorney, Sarah Feingold (who is also a jewelry artist), has put together a short, very clear ebook that guides artists easily through important copyright issues.

I've posted my review of Sarah's ebook here - Copyright Information for Artists - if you'd like more info.

She clearly and concisely covers how to protect your own work - as well as what you can legally use in the works you create.

Your Profitable Jewelry Business:

Snag More Early Shoppers
at Your Jewelry Shows

by Rena Klingenberg

A couple of years after I started my jewelry business, I was in an art show where my booth was located in a wide corridor that everyone had to pass through to get to the rest of the show.

Actually it was a great spot because I had constant traffic coming and going past my display all day long!

So during booth-setup time on the morning of the show, all of other vendors and their families made several trips back and forth in front of my booth while I was setting up my jewelry displays.

I had set out a group of turquoise necklaces (turquoise donut pendants on adjustable leather cords) on my table, and was busy setting out the rest of my inventory.

It seemed that nearly everyone who passed was stopping to ask, "How much are your turquoise necklaces?"

It dawned on me that when I set out each grouping of jewelry, I should also set out its corresponding price sign right away.

So I hurried to put out the signs for each of the jewelry groupings I had already set out - and within minutes I sold two of the turquoise necklaces to other vendors!

By the time the show officially started, I had already made a few additional sales - largely because my fellow vendors and their families hurrying busily back and forth could see at a glance how much my items cost and make an immediate purchasing decision.

Neat Jewelry-Related Website

This week's neat site is actually a very high-quality freebie:

You can download a free copy of the first chapter and tutorial from Cyndi Lavin's luscious new ebook Every Bead Has a Story - Bead Embroidery Stitches.

Cyndi's generous 59-page free "chapter" is actually detailed enough to be a complete book on its own.

It includes lots of gorgeous photos and helpful text where Cyndi clearly demonstrates bead embroidery stitch basics and tips, and it ends with a detailed tutorial for her beautiful SunShower Necklace.

After you download your free tutorial chapter, be sure to kindly leave Cyndi your feedback!

I also highly recommend visiting Cyndi's Beading Arts blog for regular doses of her artistic insights.
