Quick Tip:
Another Way to Make
Jewelry and Beads Stand Up
Previously I've mentioned that you can place a small blob of modeling clay underneath rings, cuff bracelets and beads, to make them stand up nicely for photos.
Bead creator and jewelry artist Paula McDonough told me what she uses instead of modeling clay for this purpose.
Paula says:
"I found that dental wax works even better, because it is stickier and clearer than clay. You can get dental wax at any drug store."
Or if someone in your family has braces on their teeth, they may have an extra package of dental wax.
Thanks so much for sharing this great tip, Paula! :o)

Your Profitable Jewelry Business:
How to Evolve:
Make Your Jewelry Business
Better and Better
by Rena Klingenberg
Here's a tip for continually evolving your jewelry business so that it's always becoming better and more successful.
It's a two-part strategy that sounds almost too simple - but it's one of the most powerful strategies I know of:
- Determine the things that are working really well for you - and do more of them.
- Determine the things that aren't producing good results for you - and eliminate them.
So basically you put more time, energy, and resources into your successes - and at the same time, you stop wasting time, energy, and resources on the "flops".
You can see a perfect example of this strategy at work in one of the new articles I linked to above in this issue - Jewelry Sales Analysis, by Lisa Weber.
Lisa describes how she went through her Etsy shop's jewelry sales to find out what price ranges and types of pieces her online customers buy the most of.
In a short time, Lisa was able to pinpoint precisely what's working really well for her (her best-selling items and price points).
Now she knows what she should devote more time and resources to making and listing in her Etsy shop, if she wants a fast route to greater success in selling her jewelry online.
Lisa's analysis also would have shown her what items and prices don't sell well for her online - and she might decide to put less of her time and resources into creating and stocking those items in her Etsy shop.
You can (and should) apply this strategy to any area of your jewelry business. For example:
At jewelry shows and home parties, which of your displays sell the most jewelry? - Try using more of those.
Which of your displays rarely sell jewelry? - Try eliminating them from your booth for a couple of shows and see what happens.
Have you often sold more necklaces when you have matching earrings for them? - If so, work toward creating more jewelry sets.
Do you have certain stones or colors that always sell well for you? - If so, consider increasing your selection of the popular colors, and decreasing your display of slow-selling colors.
Does your selection of wire jewelry sell better than your beadwork? - If so, put more of your time and resources into building up your wire jewelry inventory, and devote more of your booth space to displaying your wirework.
These are just examples, to show how you can apply this kind of "evolution" to any aspect of your jewelry business.
In a nutshell:
Do more of the best stuff - and experiment with ways to make those things even more profitable, efficient, and successful for you.
Drop whatever isn't producing for you, so you have more time and resources to put into what's working best!
So often we jewelry artists don't analyze these things and act on them - but they make a huge difference.
Neat Jewelry-Related Website
This week's neat site is Bottled Up Designs - truly a trash-to-treasure upcycling jewelry business.
Laura Bergman's recycled-glass jewelry is handmade from antique bottles and other vintage glass that she salvages from natural wooded habitats and rural farmlands.
In removing trashed glass items from the natural environment, Laura acquires fantastic raw materials for her lovely jewels - bits and pieces of broken Depression glass, antique liquor bottles, old mason jars, and other vintage glass.
She makes the planet cleaner while making people feel prettier - does it get any better than that?
